Customize Tax on an Event¶
Set a custom tax rate for tickets on a single event so your pricing and reporting stay accurate.
Who this is for
Hosts and admins who need to override the default tax rate for a specific event.
Quick steps¶
- Log in to your 3Common organizer dashboard.
- Create a new event or open an existing draft event.
- Go to the ticket you want to change (for example, General Admission).
- Open the ticket price and tax settings.
- Select the tax field.
- Update the tax value.
- Save your changes.
Your event will now use the updated tax rate for that ticket.
Step-by-step walkthrough¶
1. Open your 3Common dashboard¶
Navigate to your 3Common organizer dashboard. On the dashboard, you will see your events and the option to create a new one.
2. Create a new event¶
Click Create event to start a new event. This opens the event builder where you can configure tickets and settings.
3. Remove any default ticket you do not need¶
Click Remove on any default ticket that you do not plan to use for this event. Removing unused tickets helps keep your ticket list clean and easier to manage.
4. Open the General Admission ticket¶
Click General Admission (or the ticket you want to customize). This opens the ticket detail panel with price and tax fields.
5. Edit the ticket price or tax field¶
Click the price text field to make sure the correct ticket is selected. Then click the $ tax field to edit the tax amount.
6. Select the existing value¶
Press Cmd+A (on Mac) or Ctrl+A (on Windows) while your cursor is in the tax field to select the existing value. This makes it easy to overwrite the current tax value.
7. Enter the new tax amount¶
Type 1000 (or your desired tax amount) into the tax field. The ticket will now use this updated tax amount when guests purchase.
Troubleshooting¶
I do not see the tax field on my ticket
Make sure you are editing a paid ticket type. Free tickets may not show tax options.
My changes are not appearing on the event page
Confirm that you saved your event and that you are viewing the latest published version.
The tax amount looks wrong on orders
Double-check that you updated the correct ticket and entered the tax in the right format (for example, cents vs dollars, or percentage vs fixed amount, depending on how your workspace is configured).
