Set your event location: in person or virtual

When creating an event in 3Common, you choose one location type for the event. In-person events get a physical address. Virtual events get a link. The platform does not support a combined hybrid mode.

Who this is for

Hosts setting up a new event who need to configure where it takes place, whether that is a physical venue, an online stream, or both (as two separate events).

Quick steps

  1. During event creation, go to the location step.
  2. Choose In Person or Virtual.
  3. Fill in the required details for your chosen type.
  4. If you need both an in-person and a virtual component, create two separate events.

Step-by-step walkthrough

1. Open the location step during event creation

  1. In the host dashboard, create a new event or open a draft.
  2. Navigate to the section where you set the date, time, and location.
  3. Look for the location type selector. You will see two options: In Person and Virtual.

2. Set up an in-person event

Choose In Person if your event takes place at a physical location.

  1. Select In Person.
  2. Start typing the venue address in the address field. Select the correct result from the suggestions.
  3. Optionally, add a location label, a friendly name guests will see instead of the raw address. For example, The Grand Ballroom or Warehouse 23.
  4. If your event spans multiple physical locations (for example, a festival with stages at different addresses), you can add up to 10 additional locations using the extra location fields.

3. Set up a virtual event

Choose Virtual if your event takes place online.

  1. Select Virtual.
  2. Paste the link to wherever the event is happening. This can be any streaming or meeting platform, such as Google Meet, Zoom, YouTube, Twitch, Discord, or any other service.
  3. Guests who purchase a ticket will receive this link.

Keep the link ready

You do not need to have the final stream link before publishing the event. You can return to the location section at any time and update the link before the event starts.

Hybrid events: in person and virtual at the same time

3Common does not have a built-in hybrid event mode. There is no single event type that combines a physical address and a virtual link simultaneously.

If your event has both an in-person audience and a virtual audience, the supported approach is to create two separate events:

  • One event set to In Person for guests attending at the venue.
  • One event set to Virtual for guests attending online.

Each event has its own tickets, capacity, and guest list. You manage them independently in the dashboard.

Troubleshooting

I need both a physical address and a streaming link for the same event

3Common does not support a combined hybrid location. Create two separate events, one In Person and one Virtual, and promote both to your audience. Guests register for whichever format applies to them.

I pasted the wrong virtual link

Open the event in the host dashboard, go to the location section, and replace the link. Save your changes.

I want to add a second venue address to my in-person event

In Person events support up to 10 location entries. In the location section of the event editor, use the additional location fields to add more addresses.

My virtual event link is not visible to guests

Make sure the event is published and the guest has a confirmed ticket.
