Cancel an event

You can cancel an event at any time from the event overview page. Cancelling an event does not automatically refund buyers — refunds are a separate step you handle manually through Finance after the cancellation.

Who this is for

Event hosts who need to cancel an upcoming or active event and want to understand how refunds work after cancellation.

Quick steps

  1. Open your event in the host dashboard.
  2. On the event overview page, find the status toggle (set to Live) and switch it to Cancelled.
  3. Confirm the cancellation when prompted.
  4. If buyers purchased tickets, go to Finance and issue refunds manually. Refunds are not automatic.

Step-by-step walkthrough

Cancel the event

  1. Open the event in your host dashboard.
  2. On the event overview page, find the event status toggle. It will show the current status (for example, Live).
  3. Toggle the status to Cancelled.
  4. Confirm when prompted. The event is now cancelled.

Refund buyers (if applicable)

Cancelling an event does not trigger automatic refunds. If buyers purchased paid tickets, you are responsible for issuing those refunds manually.

  1. Go to Finance from the main navigation.
  2. Find the orders from the cancelled event.
  3. Select the orders you want to refund. You can process them individually or use the batch refund option to refund multiple orders at once.
  4. For each order, choose your refund type (full, partial, or custom) and whether to invalidate the tickets.
  5. Confirm each refund. Buyers receive an email confirmation when their refund is processed.

For free events with no paid orders, there is nothing to refund and no additional steps are needed after cancellation.

For full details on refund types and options, see Issue Refunds.

Troubleshooting

I cannot find the status toggle on my event

The status toggle is on the event overview page in your host dashboard. If you do not see it, confirm that you are signed in to an account with host-level permissions for that event.

Do I have to refund buyers after cancelling?

Refunds are not automatic and the system does not require you to issue them. However, buyers who purchased tickets will expect a refund. You can issue refunds through Finance at any time after the cancellation.

Can I refund all orders at once instead of one at a time?

Yes. In Finance, select multiple orders and use the batch refund option. Choose your refund type and ticket invalidation preference, and the system processes each order in sequence. See Issue Refunds for details.

Will buyers be notified about the cancellation?

Buyers receive an email confirmation when you process their refund. There is no separate automatic cancellation notification sent when you toggle the event to cancelled — the refund email is what confirms the cancellation to buyers.

What happens to tickets after I cancel?

Tickets remain technically valid until you refund them with the Refund & Release Tickets option, which invalidates them and removes them from buyers' wallets. If you issue a Refund Only, the refund is processed but tickets stay valid. For a cancellation, Refund & Release Tickets is the typical choice.
